Berrien Springs Band Boosters Minutes – February 13, 2017


Attendees:  Jeff Williams, Ryan Pesce, Jay Carter, Rhonda Carter, Sherri Keene, Art Keene, Wendy Cascone, John Cascone, Melissa Cleland, Ai Mee Anderson, Eric Stoub, Kelly Rosselit, Tammie Williams, Dawn Knuth, Melissa Jillson and Kelly Lefluer

Meeting called to order at 7:01pm

Minutes from January meeting reviewed. Motion to approve made by Eric, seconded by Jeff

Treasurer’s Report:  $32,844.30 in Band Boosters account. $4,680.99 in student accounts.

Correspondence:  “Thank you” notes need to be sent to Rite Aid for donating treats and to Saylors Pizza for the discount on the pizzas for the “lock in”

Fundraisers:  Spaghetti dinner is scheduled for March 11th at the High School. Prices will be $8.00 in advance, $9.00 at the door, $5.00 for seniors and for children 7 and under, and $5.00 for a second helping.  Presale tickets will go home with the kids 2 weeks before the spaghetti dinner. Potential for advance ticket sales incentives. Other fundraisers were discussed such as a coupon opportunity through Alexa Clare Boutique in which the band would receive $5 for every coupon used, also a possible jewelry fundraiser through Paparazzi Jewelry.

Public Relations Committee: Ai Mee, Darrin, Eric and Melissa met to brainstorm.  Review of all communications must be approved by Mrs. Rosselit and the board.  Recommendation was made to plan a year in advance for fundraisers, student’s parties, etc…this would be in addition to what is already scheduled in advance such as concerts, festivals, and marching competitions. Recommending taking full advantage of the Journal Era’s  willingness to help promote the band’s functions and fundraisers. Recommended to help raise attendance  and participation of student’s families at events by making them more aware of upcoming events that they can be a part of, such as marching festivals at Niles and Lakeshore, and concert festival at LMC in March. Visual Coordinator; a possibility of bringing someone in to take pictures and record for the bands events.  Rhonda and Wendy have been taking pictures and are working on a presentation.

Special Events:  Reveal party March 23, 2017. Cookies and punch will be served.  Mrs. Rosselit will present next year’s theme for marching band.  The reveal party is open to 8th graders through 11th graders. Seniors are encouraged to come and answer questions and help get the underclassmen excited.  Thank you to all that helped at the lock in.

Director’s Report:  9 events participated in Solo and Ensemble on February 10 and 11. Earning Division 2 rating: Gabbie Casey, Brandon Schrock and Lance Schrock, all soloist.  Earning Division 1 rating: Josiah Dubs and Michael Crispin Parker, duet; Jared Jaggi, solo; Jessica Bowen, solo; Kari Brightbill, solo; Kaitlyn Williams, solo; Enrique Latino and Elliot Sanders, duet.  Students earning Division 1 ratings qualify for state competition on March 18th.  Pre-Festival Concert is February 22, 2017, 2 to 3 chaperones are needed to help move MS students over to the HS.  Adult chaperones are also needed during the night of the concert. Festival – HS will perform on March 9th at 2:30 at LMC Mendel Center.  MS will perform on March 10th, 7th graders at 2:00 pm and 8th graders at 3:30 pm. Chaperones will be needed for these days.  Mrs. Rosselit will be presenting to the Board of Education on February 16th in reference to planning a Disney trip for the band during Spring Break of 2018. Mrs. Rosselit would like to reiterate that she works in tandem with the boosters for the betterment of the band program and to make it the best for the students.

Unfinished Business:  9 to 10 volunteers met with the seamstress. It was a very informative and helpful class.

New Business: Tammy presented possible changes to the Band Boosters By-Laws. Review of by-laws should be put on the yearly calendar of events.

John motioned to adjourn the meeting, Jay seconded the motion.
